Excellent and well said.

I have seen, and worked with, developers on both ends of the programming pendulum – Ones who have an innate love for the practice and others who have simply learned the basic rules and consider it a career. I have found, based on my experience, that the former type of developer ‘cooks’ with critical thinking abilities augmented by sweet sprinkles of practicality - A mutually beneficial recipe for business and developer. The latter – purchases ‘fast-food’ fried in routine that is mutually harmful for business and developer.

Thank you so much for the wonderful article. It sure is a hard smack on the face that is bound to wake up anyone who is remotely serious about his/her career. I appreciate the flow of the article as well as the pointer to the resources.

Interesting Article in the NY Times. It is an interview with Steve Ballmer.

"..it’s more important that people can think outside the confines of their individual expertise and their product group and connect the dots between technologies... " - Steve Ballmer
