Well, it’s been two and a half months since my public declaration, and so far, so good! I’ve lost 26 pounds so far, and am well on my way to my ideal weight. Not only has Weight Watchers been a very easy diet (their snacks are great, for the most part — but I basically eat anything I want), but the exercise program has worked so well, I feel like something is missing if I haven’t exercised yet sometime during the day.
I thought that I needed to wake up every morning at 4:00 AM in order to have enough time to squeeze in exercise into my busy schedule, and half the time, that’s what I do. But even if I can’t wake up early, I still get to the fitness club sometime during the day or in the evening. I go around an hour every single day (except for when I went on vacation, or the couple of days I was sick). It became a habit.
On top of that, I had also quit coffee cold turkey in late January. I’ve been drinking coffee for over twenty years, and was up to around five cups per day. The caffeine finally got to me, and I felt like I had to quit — which was made easier when I tied it to the new healthier lifestyle I was taking on. I do now drink maybe three cups of coffee a week — usually in mid afternoon if I feel extra drowsy.
Additionally, to complete a four-point plan, I quit drinking alcohol. My last drink was on the first day of my diet, and I really haven’t missed it at all. I used to have maybe five to ten drinks per week (one to two at night to wind down after work), but it’s really just empty calories. I’ve replaced that with herbal teas, which are terrific. A great nighttime snack is a two or three cups of tea with several rice cakes.
It looks like a huge change, and maybe it is, but surprisingly, I’ve found it easy. If I knew it would be this easy, I’d have done this years ago! I’ve lost about four inches from my waist, and I feel so much healthier. People notice it, and comment on it a lot — it definitely is noticeable. 26 pounds down, and around 50 to go!
